Did Bush just call for Genocide this morning?
Wed Nov 30, 2005 at 04:10:38 PM PDT
Bush's speech this morning was alarming in its specificity as to who comprises his enemy right now. Two of the three on his list are Sunni people, the more educated class that just lost power to the Shiites.
In an article written today on his website http://consortiumnews.com, Robert Parry suggests that Bush may be laying the groundwork for a purposeful and secret genocide. It's a great article, and I suggest you read it, then donate to Robert Parry's http://consortiumnews.com. His books and his website are first-rate and he relies on reader donations to keep up great writing like this:
Iraq as Bill Kristol's War
Tue Nov 15, 2005 at 03:13:05 PM PDT
http://amconmag.com/...
This article by Scott McConnell in American Conservative magazine highlights Weekly Standard editor William Kristol's important role in the legitimizing of, and encouraging and propagandizing for, the Iraq war. It also talks about Rupert Murdoch's role.
Some choice quotes:
On legitimizing the neocon dream:
With the fledgling Fox News network, the Standard soon emerged as the key leg in a synergistic triangle of neoconservative argumentation: you could write a piece for the magazine, talk about your ideas on Fox, pick up a paycheck from Kristol or from AEI. It was not a way to get rich, but it sustained a network of careers that might otherwise have shriveled or been diverted elsewhere. Indeed, it did more than sustain them, it gave neocons an aura of being "happening" inside the Beltway that no other conservative (or liberal) faction could match. Murdoch had refuted the otherwise plausible arguments in Norman Podhoretz's eulogy.
Kristol, Krauthammer, VD Hanson, Friedman, and Hitchens walk into a bar
Mon Aug 15, 2005 at 11:14:20 AM PDT
It's nice to see
American Prospect's Harold Meyerson take the lead in outlining just who is responsible for selling a bloodthirsty war policy to Americans.
A great article which outlines the reasons these people need to be ridiculed out of public life:
William Kristol
Charles Krauthammer
Victor Davis Hanson
Thomas L. Friedman
Christopher Hitchens

Robert Parry's Heroic Plea for Independent Journalism
Wed May 04, 2005 at 08:47:44 AM PDT
Consortiumnews.com is one of the single most important sites on the web. Robert Parry is one of the reporters that broke the Iran/Contra scandal.
Without him we would not know or understand the historical connections between the neocon elements in our government, back-channels in Iran and U.S.-funded/trained right-wing armies in Central America.
He says that independent progressive journalism is in big trouble and the left will not thrive without it.
If you work for a liberal foundation, and you care about this country, you must find a way to fund independent progressive journalism.

From 'The Power of Nightmares' to 'The Century of the Self'
Sat Apr 16, 2005 at 08:10:54 PM PDT
I just finished watching the four-part BBC series by Adam Curtis,
'The Century of the Self'. I'm floored by how good and comprehensive it is, not just as a history of media and pr, but of U.S. Political history.
Adam Curtis, who produced the fantastic 3-part BBC series 'The Power of Nightmares; the Rise of the Politics of Fear' last year in time for our elections, also made this piece, in 2002.
'The Century of the Self' covers the 80-year social history of the use of methodical psychological techniques in marketing and politics, from Coolidge through Clinton (and Tony Blair), and I think it's very important that everyone involved in politics see this, as part four covers the left's adoption of polling and focus groups.
George Lakoff fans will need to see this, and upon doing so will feel need to distribute it to their friends and family, just like what happened with 'The Power of Nightmares'.
I'll send anyone who emails me a copy.

Pies, Lies and Videotape: William Kristol and an Expression of Political Disenfranchisement
Sat Apr 02, 2005 at 09:53:32 AM PDT
William Kristol's legacy is one of lying, blood, dead Americans and dead Iraqis. He was
the PR architect of a policy steeped in blood and strategic and willful public deception. He used his 'magazine' to introduce purposeful lying into the 'debate' that preceded the Iraq quagmire. He dissembled in his appearances on NPR and TV before and after it started. He is an intellectual midget with powerful and malevolent backers, who do not believe in democracy, but in lying and coercion.
The other day, someone threw a pie at him.

Dear Jonathan Chait: Why You Are Wrong at TPM
Tue Mar 15, 2005 at 03:12:26 AM PDT
I was really sad when I read Jonathan Chait's latest slam while guesting on Talkingpointsmemo.com. I am addressing him below:
Dear Mr. Chait:
Thank you for criticizing Lieberman. However, I think you need to embrace your inner liberal instead of sideswiping it with comments about 'suicidal purity' and skanking yourself against Dean supporters.
What you must understand about the internet liberal bloggers is that they are people freed from the psychic pain of crippling self-negation.

The Theology of Elliott Abrams and the Anti-Semite Smear
Fri Feb 18, 2005 at 11:08:18 AM PDT
In order to combat the growing 'anti-semitism' smear against Dean and others, someone must articulate a marketable response to what is basically the theology advanced by convicted Iran/Contra felon Elliott Abrams, who is
the senior Bush foreign policy intellectual, and is without a doubt the root source of this neocon nonsense.
His ideas involve a top-down theocracy.
I have read some articles on Elliott Abrams' personal beliefs on Judaism, and as an American Jew, I find his bureaucratization of spiritual faith absolutely morally repugnant.
What Should Dean Say When He Goes on TV
Wed Feb 09, 2005 at 07:13:12 PM PDT
Here is my magic question:
What Do We Want To See Dean Say on TV?
Shaking things up on TV will generate energy, galvanize the base, and bring fresh viewership to the cable yak shows, impressing the pants off advertisers who are being told by the bacterial PR class that Americans want Fundamentalist Rapture.
He must not be afraid to say things that we all know is the truth.
It will be cathartic for many of us who pined for Kerry to hit back and say what millions of people are thinking.
Dean must perform, on Television, for the base.
I personally want to hear him say things like the following, in no particular order:
